Endorsements
There are Ten Commandments that God gave Moses on Mount Sinai. I suppose we could produce Ten Commandments for preachers. Some might be: ·  Thou shalt not think by the inch and speak by the yard, lest thou get the foot to boot you out the door. · Thou shalt not demand from those in the pew what the man in the pulpit will not do. · When thou hast said all that is needful, stop. · Thou shalt put the cookies on the shelf where thy people can reach them. Doubtless, you could think of others. One that I would include is: “Thou shalt not be boring!” Yet, that is a challenge when you are speaking most every week, multiple times each week, and even several times a day. Imagine preaching for decades at the same church. I spent 25 years with one congregation. While the well of God’s Word never goes dry, we may have trouble finding the bucket! This book gives you a bucket to lower into the well. I was blessed to serve as a pastor to the author, Monty Fuchs, and his wife. They are dear Christian people, and his desire is to help pastors. This is another tool for your sermon preparation toolbox. Some of these thoughts may not find their way into your sermon, yet as you read them, they may strengthen you personally, and that is crucial for your preaching. I read this: “The better the man, the better the preacher,” (Clarence Macartney, Preaching Without Notes). In addition to stirring your devotional life, this book can stimulate your homiletical juices. That is a good thing. If the message does not stir you, it is unlikely to awaken the sleepy saints! I hope it “spurs” you onward to better preaching. Our churches need it!

The task of preaching and teaching God’s people is a great privilege. For many, however, that task can be a burden. Life brings a busyness that often serves as an interruption to the preparation time of even the most gifted preachers and teachers. Dr. Fuchs has provided a gift to the church with Preacher Spurs. This practical work will serve as an invaluable tool to the busiest proclaimers of God’s Word. It is a book that should be in the library of pastors, Sunday school teachers, and lay preachers. It will serve as a valuable resource for preparation and study. I am excited to endorse Preacher Spurs.
